Reds beat Crusaders at Barlow Park,Cairns

Next up was Cairns Thinder V Cairns game was scoreless most of the game till the last ten minutes with The thunder piping Townsville to the post.

Then the Pros turn.

St. George Reds Captain James Horwill was happy with the win but could see room for improvement after the Reds beat the Crusaders 42 to15 in their first trial match of the season in Cairns.

The game marked a major comeback for the St. George Reds Captain who suffered a season ending knee injury last Season.

Flanker Radike Samo scored in the 12 minute putting the  Reds on the score board following by Will Chambers and then Saia Faingaa. Cooper nailed the conversions.

A penalty kick from Crusaders  Tyler Bleyendaal put them on the board before half-time.

The Reds dominated again in the second half with tries to Beau Robinson, Digby Ioane and Mike Harris with Harris converting. It wasn’t all one way with Crusaders crossing twice in the second half.

McKenzie was able to blood several new faces with as many as nine making their debut for Queensland at a senior level.

“We were pleased with some of the guys we’ve recruited, they’ve mixed in well and made a very successful contribution,” he said.

Horwill played strongly for almost 70 minutes of the game and Coach McKenzie was pleased with the performance. “It was like he hasn’t missed a beat,” said McKenzie.”>
